HEALTHCARE IS COMPLICATED, BUT GOOD HEALTH DOESN'T HAVE TO BE

The Primary Care Research Institute is dedicated to research and innovation in primary care. Developed in partnership with one of the oldest and largest community health centers in Central California, our multidisciplinary staff is transforming the delivery of primary care to make the healthy option the easy option for every community.

Our work

Currently, there are dozens of projects being conducted at the Institute focused on a range of issues in including population health, complex care coordination, behavioral health integration, elimination of health disparities, and telemedicine. The Institute focuses on projects that leverage technology to improve care delivery.

Research

The Institute is focused on investigating areas that have direct implications on the day-to-day practice of primary care for medically underserved patients. In addition, students from medical schools and regional universities have a range of opportunities to conduct formal research projects working closely with the Institute’s expert staff.

Transforming Care Delivery

Using artificial intelligence, video conferencing, and a digital learning environment, expert faculty provide guidance in data analysis, quality improvement, benefits enrollment, implementation of telehealth strategies, and team-based care. The Institute's Microclinic Network also provides training and specialty support in a range of clinical topics including chronic disease management, behavioral health, and trauma-informed care.

Workforce Development

The Institute offers a wide range of training for health professionals and students, with unique pathways for practice as primary care providers in underserved areas.  The Institute is also developing a series of post-doctoral residencies built around a care delivery model of fully integrated primary and behavioral health care.
